Vacancies Flank St. James Butcher [Empty in Smithtown]

Mercep Bros. Meats butcher is the only business left standing in the small retail space on Lake Avenue.

The only independent butcher shop in St. James isn't complaining about its neighbors.

Mercep Bros. Meats at 611 Lake Avenue is the sole tenant in the small building where it operates, flanked on either side by empty storefronts.

That includes the shell of the former Rich Rewards Catering.

The empty spaces are now listed for lease by American Real Estate Associates for $2,500 a month.

But these aren't the first empty buildings we've spotted on Lake Avenue. We've already looked at .

So what small businesses would you like to see move in here? What is St. James missing?

With the uncertainty that abounds because of taxes and obamacare, who in their right mind would open a small business now? Get used to the vacancies. But don't worry Obama is from the government, and he is here to help with more regulations....get use to this until we regain control of an out of control knee-jerking government that forced banks to make loans to people who did not meet credit, income or job standards and a fed who kept interest rates at historic lows when they should have raised the interest rate to gently slow the growth of the bubble due to cheap easy to obtain money.... Its the Government stupid

Keep raising property taxes to feed all the unions that plague New York State and treat the middle class like it's own personal cash cow and we'll all have to resort to the days were we'll have to raise our own livestock just to eat.

I really miss Suffolk Stores, so it would be a blessing to have a store like that again! The closest thing to that is the Ace Hardware in Setauket. It has notions, games, desk lamps, kitchenware, oil cloths on rolls etc...
