We asked you to guess what this old building was used for.

Last week we asked readers to take a guess at what the old building pictured above used to be used for in Smithtown.

Ruth Puzo got it right in the comments section to the original post.

“The first firehouse on Bellemeade Avenue,” she wrote.

“It is the old fire house on Bellemead Ave.,” he posted to our Facebook page.

When he sent us the picture, Kiernan Lannon, executive director of the Smithtown Historical Society, said that the photo was indeed an image of the original Smithtown Fire House from 1920.

“The fire house sat on Bellemeade Avenue in Smithtown, just north of Main Street,” he said. “The building–now vacant, I believe–still stands on its original location (the Fire House has since moved).”

Come back soon for more historical photo guessing games from the Smithtown Historical Society.
