Headlines Nearby: Setauket Gas Station Robbed

Check out all the top headlines from this past week in nearby Patch towns.

Commack

Over the past few months we've profiled a selection of empty properties in Commack andwhile some eagerly await a new tenant, others are in desperate need of repair.  The one we spotlight today is drawing attention for all the wrong reasons. The abandoned lot and building at 6228 Jericho Turnpike stand out from the surroundings. A largely vacant overgrown lot seems deserted compared to the surrounding storefronts that are busy with the movements of traffic.

Hauppauge

As Hauppauge school officials move through budget season, parents and school administrators continue to go back and forth over what is an acceptable class size for next year's fifth-grade class.

Kings Park

Kings Park celebrated a few of its own last week as they inducted eight businessmen and women into the Entrepreneur Hall of Fame. The ceremony, hosted by the Kings Park Heritage Museum, was held in the high school cafeteria and included family names that may be recognizable to locals, such as Tanzi and Flynn.

Three Village

Suffolk County police are investigating a robbery that took place at the  on Route 25A in Setauket on Sunday at 10:08 p.m.

Port Jefferson

Saying it will go from one of the worst corners in Port Jefferson Station to one of the best, developer Jim Tsunis addressed the Port Jefferson-Terryville Civic Association at their monthly meeting on Tuesday night to update members on work at the southeast intersection of Old Town Road and Route 347.

How, in a period of rapidly declining enrollment, can costs be increasing so much from year to year,Read More you ask? The answer is in front of you in black and white. I urge you to READ your district’s budget: we are funding retirements when many of us cannot afford to fund our own during difficult economic times. These wheels were set in motion by contracts negotiated in times of unrealistic growth that may likely not occur again. It is time to open up these plans and relieve this unfair burden from our shoulders. Whatever other measures are pursued in order to control costs, including consolidation within and eventually with other districts, are never going to be enough if you cannot get this problem corrected. Write your congressman, for the love of God. If you need any more incentive to do so, please go to http://rocdocs.democratandchronicle.com/database/teacher-pensions-new-york and look at what Smithtown’s retirees are collecting MONTHLY. It will sicken you.
