Hurricane Forces Nissequogue Residents to Relocate

The Department of Public Safety said a mandatory evacuation is underway for residents of Long Beach Road, east of the marina.

Hurricane Irene has forced residents on Long Beach Road in Nissequogue to evacuate.

According to the Department of Public Safety, an evacuation on Long Beach Road east of the marina in Nissequogue is currently underway.

Michael Alba, of Driftwood Lane, said he was notified of the evacuation around noon today, but was not notified of any local shelters where he could relocate.

Alba said he had already planned on evacuating to his mothers home on the south shore, prior to being notified of the mandatory evacuation.

Joseph Krupinski said he plans on sticking the hurricane out at home, despite the evacuation.

“We set up next store, we’ve got generators next door, we’ve got a well next door, I’m going to stick it out … it’s a hassle, we stocked up on everything, we went out and gassed everything up, we’ve got food, water, supplies and everything,” he said.

The Long Beach Road evacuation was the only area within the town where residents were told to relocate.
