Video of Flower Vandalism at Katie's Goes Viral [YouTube]

Katie's of Smithtown owner Brian Karppinen brings video to YouTube for information on vandalism.

A video titled “flowerfight” went viral Sunday, showing a Saturday night incident where a group of four men destroyed flowers outside of .

Brian Karppinen, 12-year owner of Katie’s, said the group came into the bar already intoxicated, and after hanging out inside for a while they went outside when the vandalism took place.

“They came into the bar drunk, I guess from another bar, and we wouldn’t serve them because they were intoxicated … we said, ‘look, you guys should really call a cab or something,’” he said. “While they were standing out front one guy started taking a leak and the other guy started throwing flowers at him while he was urinating on the sidewalk.”

Karppinen said he posted the video on YouTube to see if anyone recognized the people responsible for the damage and said he didn’t think calling the police was necessary. He also said if the people that destroyed the flowers apologized he would remove the video from YouTube.

The owner also said he does not know what bar the group came from before the vandalism and would not place blame on another establishment, stating he gets along with the other local bars and they warn each other if people like that are heading elsewhere.

While he did not plan on pursuing legal ramifications for the vandalism, the incident still upset him.

“I’m a good guy, I’ve been here for 12 years, I don’t have any problems, why would you rip down my flowers?” he said.
