Do You Honor Fuel Efficient Parking Spots?

Local businesses have them, and now the Smithtown library has set aside a few parking spaces designated for fuel efficient cars. But do you heed them?

Having a fuel-efficient car will get you farther in between fill-ups, and if it's a hybrid you can even use the HOV lane when it's just you in the car. But now there's preferential parking?

Locals who flocked to the opening of the newly renovated Smithtown Library last week most likely noticed the parking spots that are now reserved for "fuel-efficient" vehicles, a practice you can also find in Lake Grove's Whole Foods lot.

But unlike handicapped parking, you can't be ticked for parking a gas-guzzler in a spot reserved for green cars.
