Cause of Fatal Car Fire Still Unknown

The investigation into the cause of death in the Short Beach fire is ongoing, police say Monday.

While firefighters a week ago, the cause has not yet been determined, police said Monday.

Newsday reported Sunday that homicide detectives determined the death of  , was not criminal in nature.

The body of Fontana was found in a car fire March 6 at Short Beach after responders answered a 911 call at 11:54 a.m. Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick of the Suffolk County Police Homicide Department said during a press conference following the fire that the body was so extensively damaged that authorities could not identify even the sex of the victim without the use of dental records and a trace of the license plate of the car.
