Crime Report: Stolen Beer Possession, Resisting Arrest

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Suffolk County Police Department Fourth Precinct reported these arrests and incidents in Smithtown during Aug. 27 - 31.

Arthur Center, 52, of Smithtown, was arrested on Aug. 31 at 9 a.m. in Smithtown on second degree harassment charges. Reports state Center was arrested at his home after police said he grabbed someone by the arm and pushed her into a wall.

Michael Estivo, 21, of Smithtown, was arrested on Aug. 29 at 2:17 a.m. in Smithtown on fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest charges. Reports state Estivo was arrested on Birchbrook Drive while in possession of glass bottles of LandShark Lager that were allegedly stolen from Walgreens on Main Street in Smithtown. Reports also state Estivo refused to place his hands behind his back for officers to handcuff him.

Robert Hofbauer, 26, of Ronkonkoma, was arrested on Aug. 29 in Smithtown on multiple counts of second degree burglary from a dwelling, third degree robbery, and fourth degree grand larceny charges. According to police, Hofbauer unlawfully entered a home on Aug. 26 between 12-6 p.m. and stole a woman's pocketbook with credit cards and cash. Reports state Hofbauer also entered a home unlawfully on Aug. 27 between 2-6 p.m. by prying open a door and stealing money and jewelry. Reports continue to state that Hofbauer stole on Aug. 28 a Craftsman 22-inch lawnmower, a backpack blower, a lawn trimmer and a portable air compressor from a home. On Aug. 26 between 10-11 p.m., police said Hofbauer entered a home and took change. Police also said Hofbauer cut a screen on the bedroom window and entered the home took 2004 Nissan Altima and a wallet on Aug. 19 between 7-11 a.m. Reports continue to state that Hofbauer entered a home through a kitchen window and took an X-Box, a camera, an iPod and other assorted items between Aug. 23 at 12 p.m. and Aug. 25 at 12 p.m.

How, in a period of rapidly declining enrollment, can costs be increasing so much from year to year,Read More you ask? The answer is in front of you in black and white. I urge you to READ your district’s budget: we are funding retirements when many of us cannot afford to fund our own during difficult economic times. These wheels were set in motion by contracts negotiated in times of unrealistic growth that may likely not occur again. It is time to open up these plans and relieve this unfair burden from our shoulders. Whatever other measures are pursued in order to control costs, including consolidation within and eventually with other districts, are never going to be enough if you cannot get this problem corrected. Write your congressman, for the love of God. If you need any more incentive to do so, please go to http://rocdocs.democratandchronicle.com/database/teacher-pensions-new-york and look at what Smithtown’s retirees are collecting MONTHLY. It will sicken you.
