Crimes Nearby: Port Jeff Station Residents Charged in Fatal Shooting

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Suffolk County police reported the following arrests.

Commack

Torrey Smith, 34, from East Northport was arrested in Commack on March 1 and charged with second degree possession of marijuana.

Princena Degraffe, 27, of Central Islip, was arrested March 1 in Commack and charged with criminal possession of marijuana.

Carla Donovan, 26, from East Northport was arrested in Commack on March 1 and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, allegedly prescription pills.

Kathryn Lambert, 21, of Commack, was arrested March 2 and charged with  driving while intoxicated, disobeying a traffic control device, driving on the shoulder, and backing up on a controlled access highway. Lambert on the Southern State Parkway, according to police.

Matthew Bounaparte, 41, of Hauppauge, was arrested in Commack March 2 and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, resisting arrest, criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree harassment, and traffic violations. and spat at and fought with an officer, police said.

Matthew O'Reilly, 46, of St. James, was arrested March 5 in Commack and charged with DWI and traffic violations. According to police, on the Northern State Parkway and failed sobriety tests.

Port Jefferson

Port Jefferson Station residents, Eduardo Nunez, 20 and Alex Fernandez, 19, were arrested and charged with shooting 21-year old Luis Vargas, of Selden, to death, police reported. On Monday police were called to 22 Judith Drive in Coram to find Vargas in the backyard suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Vargas was transported to Stony Brook Hospital but he died shortly after arriving.

Port Jefferson Village Constable George Gernhart was patrolling near the on Main Street in Upper Port Jefferson on Wednesday, Feb. 19 when a passerby told him that a man was breaking into a car parked south of the station, according to Suffolk County Police. After calling police, Gernhart discovered Jeffrey Edsall, 41, of Patchogue, in a fenced area at G & B Collision on Railroad Ave., allegedly trying to break the driver’s side window of a 2004 Mitsubishi Galant with a large rock. Constable Dominic Messina and Constable Lt. John Borrero helped Gernhart hold Edsall until Suffolk police officers showed up, police said. After an investigation, police arrested Edsall and charged him with criminal mischief and criminal trespassing. He also had outstanding warrants.

Hauppauge

Kenneth Gallagher, 56, of Nesconset, was arrested March 2 and charged with driving while intoxicated - first offense, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and unlawful possessin of marijuana. Police said Gallagher was pulled over on Lake Avenue in Saint James for his driving, where he was found to be in possession of an unlabeled orange prescription bottle with pills inside and marijuana. 

Selden residents Crystal Dattilo, 30, and Jason Dattilo, 33, were arrested March 1 and charged with second-degree burglary of a dwelling. Police said the pair broke into a house on Townline Road in Nesconset by climbing in a window. They allegedly stole jewelry and clothing from the home. Police arrested the pair on Oser Avenue in Hauppauge. 

Scott Woods, 41, of Petersburgh, N.Y. was arrested Feb. 29 and charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, fifth-degree public possession of marijuana and seventh-degree criminal possessin of a controlled substance. Woods was pulled over for a traffic stop in the Islandia park-and-ride off Expressway Drive North, when officers discovered he was  in possession of marijuana and cocaine.

Miller Place–Rocky Point

Jonathan Hammel, 21, of Shoreham, was arrested Feb. 25 at Stony Brook University Medical Center and charged with first-offense DWI after driving off North Country Road and crashing into a tree.

William Quaglia, 54, of Miller Place, was arrested Feb. 24 and charged with first-offense DWI. Quaglia was allegedly operating his car in an unsafe manner while under the influence of alcohol on Radio Avenue in Miller Place.

Keith Keene, 33, of Sound Beach, was arrested Feb. 24 in Selden and charged with petty larceny. Keene allegedly stole two pairs of Nike sneakers from the shelf in the Bob’s Store located in College Plaza in Selden, concealing them in a black plastic bag and leaving the store without paying.

Northport

Carla Donovan, 26, from East Northport was arrested in Commack on March 1 and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, allegedly prescription pills.

Naveed Jarral, 27, from East Northport was arrested in East Northport on Feb. 22 and charged with second degree aggravated harassment with intent to communicate/alarm after he allegedly called a woman over a hundred times and left multiple voice and text messages after being told not to contact her.
