UPDATE: DWI Arrest Made After School Bus Crash; No Kids Injured

Police say no injuries were reported in Tuesday's school bus accident; Commack man arrested on DWI, leaving the scene of an accident charges.

Update 3:15 p.m.: Suffolk County Police have arrested Robert Slavonik, 44, of Commack after they said he was driving while intoxicated and left the scene of a car accident after hitting a school bus in Smithtown on Tuesday.

According to police, Slavonik was driving a Dodge pickup truck exiting the Dunkin Donuts parking lot, located at 235 Route 25A, when he hit a school bus traveling westbound on Route 25A at 9:45 a.m. Police said a witness reported the pickup truck's plate number to police and officers went to the home of the truck's owner, who was still in the driver's seat of the truck in the driveway when the officers arrived.

Police said there were 26 people on the bus at the time of the accident, 23 of them were kids, and there were no reported injuries. The children were from the Three Village School District.

Slavonik was arrested on charges of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting and Driving While Intoxicated, according to police.

Original Story, 2:11 p.m.: Suffolk County Police said a Commack man was drunk when he crashed his pickup truck into a school bus in Smithtown Tuesday morning.

Suffolk County police arrested the man, who is now charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police said the man was driving on Route 25A in Smithtown when he crashed his truck into the bus at 10:01 a.m. The bus was carrying children from the Three Village School District, police said.

Police have not yet released the identity of the driver.

"Why are Smithtown teachers continuing to pay for school supplies out of their ownRead More pocket?" Since when? Ever see the big list of supplies kids get in their folders at the end of the year for them to bring in next year? I think you're talking about the wrong school district.
