PHOTOS: Two-Car Wreck Closes 25A in St. James [UPDATED]

Officers on the scene said the victims survived.

UPDATED - 11:00 a.m.: Suffolk County Police said two people were injured in a car accident that shut Route 25A in St. James Tuesday.

According to a spokeswoman, the driver of one of the cars involved had dropped a thermos and veered into incoming traffic when they reached for it, causing the head-on collision.

Both were taken to to Stony Brook University Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Prior to 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, the wreckage of the navy Jeep SUV and a black Honda Accord lay under the train trestle where 25A and Edgewood Avenue intersect.

Rescuers had to cut the roof off of the Accord to extract the driver.

UPDATED - 9:10 a.m.: Route 25A has been reopened and the wreckage has been clearered following Tuesday morning's two-car accident that earlier closed the roadway.

8:41 a.m.: A two-car accident closed a section if Route 25A in St. James Tuesday morning.

As of 8:00 a.m., the wreckage of a navy Jeep SUV and a black Honda Accord lay under the train trestle where 25A and Edgewood Avenue intersect.

Officers on the scene said the victims survived, though rescuers had to cut the roof off of the Accord.

A spokeswoman for the Suffolk County Police Department did not have further details as of this writing.
