Police Seeking Man Who Attempted to Rob Smithtown Gas Station

Man tried to rob Performance Fuels on Veterans Highway in March, police say.

Police are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the man pictured above who they say attempted to rob a gas station in Smithtown earlier this year.

The man entered Performance Fuels, located at 377 Veterans Highway, on March 31 around 12:50 p.m., displayed a gun, pointed it at the employee and demanded cash, police said. 

The man briefly struggled with the store employee before fleeing the store without proceeds, police said. He then fled on foot northbound on Wyandanch Boulevard.

The would-be robber is described as white, approximately 19 years old, 5-feet-10 with a thin build. He was wearing a black baseball hat and a silver hooded sweatshirt at the time of the attempted robbery, police said. 

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
