Yes, I'm sure there are more dangerous jobs and communities that exist (don't have to go to Chicago or NYC to find them, there's plenty right here on LI), and no, I'm not a police officer or even related to one. Someone has to do this and we should be thankful that most don't encounter life-threatening situations. Still, I just don't think we can put a price tag on this. Next time you pass an officer at the donut shop , say thanks, who knows maybe by the end of the day he(she) may be run over pulling over a drunk on the LIE

dkd aka btk: Speaking of pulling cars over on the LIE, regardless of whether they are drunks or not (most are not), why isn't there a policy in place by NCP & SCPD to have cars proceed to the next exit/rest stop/truck weight station or anyplace that lowers the possibility of a rear ender. Why put the public and officers at risk for a 'dirty license plate ticket", etc, etc, etc. The only reason I can think of is it may take a bit longer to issue the ticket and return to the lair to repeat the process, thus lowering the take for the counties.

seriously ?! all this energy over some pos from Shirley ? My point AGAIN, is that they will always be putting their life in harms way (whether it be a routine traffic stop or a dui, putting their families on the back burner for the career they chose (yes , I acknowledge) they chose to serve the public come what may, but at the end of the day, who knows what they may encounter. I just feel ( and feelings are neither right or wrong) they deserve more than they receive. When I think of the sports industry (dare I go there) millions in salary to knock a ball around or shoot a hoop , we are nowhere near what a man (or woman) is worth serving the community for you and me. Things are bad, imagine how much worse if they just collected and didn't serve. sorry ,btk what does that mean ?
