Smithtown Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Crash

Police say Stephen Peragine, 54, lost control of his motorcycle and hit a tree in East Northport.

A Smithtown motorcyclist is in critical condition after an accident on Daly Road Thursday afternoon.

Suffolk County police said a 911 call was received reporting a motorcyclist accident on Daly Road near Commack at 12:50 p.m. Thursday.

Stephen Peragine, 54, was driving a 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcyle southeast on Daly Road in Commack, 200 feet north of Blacksmith Lane, when he lost control of the bike and crashed into a tree on the opposite side of the roadway.

Peragine was airlifted via Suffolk County helicopter to Stony Brook Medical Center, where he is in critical condition. The Dix Hills Fire Department also responded to the crash.

Police have impounded the motorcycle for a safety check.

The accident caused Daly Road to be temporarily closed in both directions on Thursday afternoon.

We can all make a statement one way or another when we vote. However, that statement should be madeRead More on a state level not the local level. Boards of Ed are powerless to do any real cost cutting. The state needs to take this on. We need real reform in Albany to reduce the ever increasing pensions and life long benefits that educators enjoy. Combine this with letting Albany decide salary increases for all educators and we can guaranty tax reductions over the next few years. Its that simple, Boards cannot do these. Lets get Albany to move on these NOW!
