A GOP Presidential Primary Looms; Who Gets Your Vote?

April 24 primary is going to have much more weight than previously expected. Who are you going to support?

Back when the Republican presidential campaign started there weren't many who thought New York would have much of an effect on who gets the nomination. But with the GOP candidates trading wins in battleground states, the 95 delegates up for grabs on April 24 have become a big prize.

Over the next month, Patch will be telling the local stories coming out of the Republican campaign's run through New York. And if you think you have a great idea for the coverage, email me at henry@patch.com.

But to kick this off, let's get a sense of where our readers stand on the candidates. Please answer our poll and leave your comments below.

@ Angela - I guess you bumped your head? It was BUSH who crashed the economy after getting us into 2 wars at $1 billion/day...that's $365 BILLION PER YEAR. What's your complaint? Obama not cleaning up the Republican mess fast enough for you? By the time Bush left office, 2.1 million Americans were unemployed. Obama has brought 20% of them back to work and saved American industry in the process. Thank you Mr. President. You've EARNED my vote AGAIN.
The Beav April 30, 2012 at 01:03 AM
So Predilator would prefer that the Republicans lie to him like they did when Bush was almost President. Let's start with the attack on 9/11, who profited by the wars that followed and the Bush Depression. That should keep you making excuses for months. Oh, apply "Libtard" and "Stupid" as often as you like. Americans need to get warmed up to the Republican response.
Meadow Lane April 30, 2012 at 01:34 AM
It is so funny to see Robkoz and Predilator say they're not party affiliated. if you followed earlier threads about Altschuler, it was obvious which brand of BS they were promoting. This has become Comedy Central. They're working to gain trust among what Republicans have labeled the victims of Phase II - the elimination of the Miiddle Class. When we have no money to fight them, Republicans will control communications, the courts (all decisions will be to their advantage), elections will be decided by corrupt Republican judges and the average guy will be living in the streets. Bush was just the practice round.
Jaguar-Guy April 30, 2012 at 10:28 AM
Hi Meadow, President Obama appointed two (2) Supreme Court Judges in three (3) years, and I think Bush (W) nominated two (2) in 8 years. Also, the NLRB is very, very liberal, as is the Attorney General. There are great divides all over this government. Also, I think the Court is going to rule against President Obama's two (2) most important pieces of legislation - Obamacare and the AZ. Immigration Law. Can the Constitutional Professor come back from two (2) defeats in the Supreme Court?? Even Sotamayor was questioning the Government's arguments in the AZ case. He's trying to do the right thing but has gone about accomplishing everything the wrong way. Can he come back - does he still have your support??
Jaguar-Guy April 30, 2012 at 11:32 AM
Bush did not play golf one (1) single day after going to war and vacationed at home in TX. and he had two (2) young daughters while President too. It's a tough one, how do you NOT go on vacation, but you need to find a balance somewhere.
Argile April 30, 2012 at 12:24 PM
Wow. Paranoid much? There are meds for that. And what BS was I promoting. I posted a link on Bishops entire voting record proving that the guy is a tax and spend liberal, stood behind TARP and voted against GI and Veteran programs. Funny how after I posted that link the thread when silent. Face it, you just hate republicans that much that you don't have the ablility to see over both sides of the fence unlike myself where my voting record is much more independent and non party affilitated than yours. So please, next time don't include me in your paranoid thoughts.
Preliator April 30, 2012 at 01:10 PM
Meadow - I never said I was not affiliated with a party, I am a Republican but I will vote for anyone if I think they are the best person for the job (Cuomo, Clinton, etc.).
Hazel Wilkonson the First April 30, 2012 at 01:19 PM
Jaguar-Gal, you are, as usual, completely wrong. Your lie that Bush did not play golf was completely debunked years ago: http://mediamatters.org/research/201004190054 More proof that you are not interested in fact, but spewing your backwards ideology.
Jaguar-Guy April 30, 2012 at 02:44 PM
Oh thanks Hazel (usual insults delivered) for correcting me. He played once, and then took up biking. BTW, if you look at my past posts, I have been supporting Pres. Obama. I just want the ridiculous spending to stop. I await, with baited breath, your next insult.
Hazel Wilkonson the First April 30, 2012 at 03:15 PM
Jag, quit whimpering about "insults". Your comments are filled with some of the most insulting, vitriolic and angry nonsense on these boards. You are a supporter of president Obama? Come on.
Preliator April 30, 2012 at 03:40 PM
I am afraid I will have to defer to Hazel here regarding insults. If anyone here is an expert on the topic it is Hazel as she routinely insults those with whom she disagrees with.
Jaguar-Guy April 30, 2012 at 04:34 PM
Sure Haze, you know everything. Vitriol, really? I have zero insults directed to anyone.

The favorite words of Republicans..."paranoid", "libtard", "nut job" As I recall, Bush cut $82 billion in VA benefits the day he announced he was going to war against the little man they found in a rat hole; Saddam Hussein. And if Bishop didn't vote for the TARP program when America's industries needed him and Americans needed their jobs saved, I wouldn't be voting for him this year....PROUDLY. Romney said "let them fail" and "Let Obama live free"...he's eating his words today. In fact, he just did ANOTHER FLIP FLOP to cover his sorry arse. What a puss.
Meadow Lane May 01, 2012 at 12:32 AM
Yes. Obama jumped in after years of everybody ducking the very thing Americans need the most - universal healthcare. A sickly society costs far more to support than a healthy society and a healthy society is far happier, healthier, imaginative, intelligent and productive. Not that Republicans want more intelligent and imaginative people; that would cause Americans to question Republican deeds, such as the phony war that Bush, Cheney's pimp, got behind so fast. From kindergarden to kindergarden cop. This is America's best? Obama is far more intelligent. Bush could never have brought forth anything like universal healthcare. I doubt he could even spell two words of their length.
Argile May 01, 2012 at 12:38 AM
1. Phony war? 9-11-2001. Forget already? Or did you forget that even the Democrats were behind Bush for the war? 2. What was wrong with Clinton starting universal healthcare? How about Reagan? Carter? No, let's start universal healthcare in the middle of a recession. Yeah that makes sense..... 3. Most people are sick cause they don't take care of themselves. The US has the most obese people on the planet and just as many smokers. Sorry, but people like this don't deserve universal healthcare. Especially when you know that their healthcare costs will end up being paid for by other people.
Argile May 01, 2012 at 12:42 AM
What industries were saved? GM? Chrysler? (it was their 2nd bailout by the way) Ford didn't seem to need a bailout. Hmmm. What other industries do you mean? Ooooh, the banks? I like how all the CEO's and higher-ups decided to give themselves bonuses after feeding themselves with taxpayer bailout money. I guess the jokes on us.
Preliator May 01, 2012 at 01:38 AM
First, Obamacare it is more unpopular than ever, so much so you do not even hear Obama talking about it anymore. Second it will more than likely be struck down by the SCOTUS as it should be. When we needed leadership Obama handed the ball off to Pelosi and Reid and this joke of a law was shoved down our throats. Obama is a coward, afraid to do the hard work yet ready to accept praise for doing nothing. We should all applaud our first affirmative-action President, the bar is set so low that just signing his name is enough to qualify him for re-election in the eyes of the idiotic left.
Preliator May 01, 2012 at 01:43 AM
Rose- Keep those sunny sentiments when we enter the double dip recession this summer and keep telling yourself what a wonderful jog Herr Obama is doing when you are paying $8.00 dollars for a gallon of gas to go pay $8.00 a gallon for milk while King Barry and Queen Michelle live it up like royalty.
Preliator May 01, 2012 at 01:53 AM
"Yes. Obama jumped in.." I have to come back to this because it is such utter crap. Obama and the democrats forced this monster "Obamacare" on a nation that did not want because of timing. Obama had control of both the House and the Senate and while a nation was distracted and high on the hopes of his lies passed this joke of a bill. He, Reid and Pelosi literally had to bribe and threaten members of his own party to pass it. There was bi-partisanship in Congress in the days before the vote; bi-partisan opposition to a law that is a failure and $600 billion over budget two years before it will be fully implemented.
Jaguar-Guy May 01, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Oh Boy. What completely "polar-opposite" views. If we few cannot ever agree on anything here, nothing can ever get done by whomever is elected President. Obama is attacking Romney for him putting his crated dog on the 'roof' 25 years ago, and Romney quotes Obama's book where he said he ate dog. I mean, is this what it has come down to?? Dog is eaten in parts of the world, and dogs love riding in the back of pick-up trucks too. Now they are going back-and-forth over killing Osama. Sheesh, enough with the animal attacks and who would kill UBL - can we move on to the economy and jobs please ??
John Gruber May 02, 2012 at 05:37 PM
actually the last president to have a balanced budget was Clinton. Bush made it worse. If you're giving out blame be equal with it and I don't know why you think the president controls the price of milk and gas and gas was just as high under Bush so you're not making sense at all
Mary Beth May 02, 2012 at 06:09 PM
Preliar has nothing but childish attacks and nazi comparisons. Pathetic, but not unexpected.
John Gruber May 02, 2012 at 08:31 PM
"leftists" and "rightists" are equally as dumb and ignorant as the other. Haven't you guys caught on that it's a combination of the 2? Guess that requires some independent thinking from some of you, which is clearly to much
Preliator May 03, 2012 at 10:49 AM
Fraullein Mary, you may think what I say is childish but please bear in mind that I am trying to keep things as simple as possible for you; I know how those on the left struggle at times.
Meadow Lane May 03, 2012 at 12:20 PM
The best form of propaganda is the one that is adopted by the people who think it's their own idea. The Republicans are the best at manipulating those in their propaganda pool and you boys are up to your necks in it.
Mary Beth May 03, 2012 at 12:25 PM
Thank you, Preliar, for proving my point.
forward thinking May 03, 2012 at 12:54 PM
all i can say when lib.'s are "in control" big business profiteers run amok-- when conserv. are it "control" the banks, big oil and foreign influences are down. we need someone "up there" who throws the fear of the "USA" and her might to curtail their aggressive attitude against the apparent "mamby - pamby" that is currently present... unfortunately we need a drastic "hawk" leader to offset our fall from leadership that apologizes for profit and good times to showing how to get better rather than giving away the good times so we all can become better through effort rather than "the free" ride we think we are owed.
Preliator May 03, 2012 at 01:24 PM
Do you mean this Mary: "Hmm, always seems to be the trend among progressives to want and relocate people...for their own good of course, right Fraulein Gigi." Is that the terrible earth shattering Nazi comparison you are talking about? Out of over 324 posts here this is what bothers you? Gee whiz, you better call Eric Holder and report a hate crime and get some grief counseling.
Local shop owner May 07, 2012 at 02:29 PM
The bottom line is get out and Vote!
Preliator May 07, 2012 at 04:56 PM
Yes no matter if you are an America hating leftist Obama goon or an American loving Romney patriot, go vote.
