Proposed Cell Antenna Will Be Center of Debate Thursday Night

Smithtown Town Board to hear proposal to increase height of cell antenna at Paul J. Fitzpatrick Country Club.

Residents will have the chance to give their input on raising the maximum height of a Smithtown cell phone tower.

Smithtown Town Board will host a public meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Eugene Cannataro Senior Citizen Center on Middle Country Road. On the agenda, is a public hearing over the height of the cell phone antenna at Paul J. Fitzpatrick Country Club in Smithtown.

Site Tech Wireless LLC has submitted an application to raise the height of the cell phone antenna from 75 feet to 125 feet, Newsday reports. The new height would more cell phone carriers to be on the antenna as carrier's equipment must be separated by 10 feet.

Smithtown Supervisor Patrick Vecchio has said the town wants the tower's height to be increased to improve communications for emergency and fire departments. The antenna is roughly 1,000 feet from the closest residential neighbors.
