Four High School Seniors Receive Scholarships From Smithtown Fire Department

Aaron Rosenthal, Alice Shan, Michael McCabe and Ryan Mathie all took home $1,000 scholarships from the Smithtown Fire Department.

Two East and two West students received $1,000 College scholarships for careers in engineering during the Senior Awards Protocol held at West on June 2, according to a Smithtown Fire Department statement.

Aaron Rosenthal of West, who will be attending Stony Brook University, and Alice Shan from East, who will be studying at Cornell University, took home the Charles Lauber scholarships.

Michael McCabe of East, who will be attending Stony Brook University, and Ryan Mathie of West, who will be studying at Worcester Poly Tech Institute, took home the Frank Jelley scholarships.

The scholarships, presented by John Hansen, chief of the Smithtown Fire Department, are handed out each year in memory of Lauber, an ex-Chief of the department, and Jelley, an ex-captain of the department, who lost their lives in the lines of duty.
