Smithtown East Off to Playoffs

The team defeated West Islip Monday, 7-4, clinching the League III title.

Smithtown East was named the League III Title winner Monday after defeating West Islip 7-4. The win solidifies a spot for the Bulls in the playoffs.

Shortstop and short reliever Nick Aurrichio was a standout in the game that clinched a playoff slot for Smithtown East, according to MSG Varsity.

Aurrichio didn’t come in until the sixth inning, when West Islip scored and filled the bases. He gave West Islip a two-run single, but stopped two runners in the sixth and again in the seventh, which ended any chance for a tie. Aurrichio also had five saves and two wins in relief, according to the report.

The game win is Smithtown East’s third Suffolk League III title in four years.
