West Lacrosse Star Makes ESPN’s High School Top 25 Lacrosse Attack List

West senior attack James Pannell makes the list at number five.

Although lacrosse season is months away, ESPN High School has broken down the top 100 players by position, with West attack James Pannell coming in at number five.

Pannell’s 50 goals and 25 assists as a junior earned him the fifth spot on the list, in addition to his selection as Newsday’s First-Team All Long Island, his All-County honors in both his freshman and sophomore seasons, and his playing in the 2011 Under Armour underclass games.

Pannell was instrumental for West’s successful playoff run last season. Against , Pannell had four goals and an assist, followed by a three-goal and two-assist performance against . where Pannell had an assist in the 12-11 overtime loss.

The Pannell family has been recognized for lacrosse accomplishments by ESPN before as James’ brother Rob was nominated for best male college athlete in the 2011 ESPY Awards. His nomination for the award placed him in a competition with Sacramento Kings player from Brigham Young University Jimmer Fredette, Connecticut basketball standout and Charlotte Bobcats draftee Kemba Walker, current Phoenix Coyotes center by way of Miami-Ohio Andy Miele, and the current Carolina Panthers quarterback by way of Auburn University Cam Newton.
