Before You Make Your Diet & Fitness Resolutions, Read This

I have a saying that I tell my students during class to motivate them, "chance favors those that train regularly and stay in shape." Simply put, if you are wondering why your body is not working the way you want it to; whose fault is it? The human body is a complex machine. And like a machine, if we don't maintain it the machine breaks down or doesn't work at 100 % capacity.
So, should we run out and join a gym? After all it is the New Year and we do like to make New Year Resolutions. But are they the same ones we made last year? If you want to eat right and if you want to get in shape, then you need to be under the supervision of an expert. Every year I hear the same line " I am going to go to the gym and get in shape and then I will come to train with you." Let's be realistic, this almost never happens. And now you joined a gym and you never go. Why don’t you start with a simple regimen? Depending on your fitness level, start with a short walk several times a week, take the stairs instead of the elevator at work, and if you can, jump rope at home. Whatever you do, start at a pace that you are comfortable with. And by the way, when was the last time you had a complete physical with blood work?
Every year you start another diet, and that lasts how long? Diets, for the most part, don't work! Why, because the average person can't stay on them long term. Diets are not realistic! If you want to lose weight, lower your cholesterol or lower your blood sugar, then you need a lifestyle change, not a diet! Here is a simple tip: get rid of the sugar in your diet. Did you know that eating a banana affects your blood sugar almost as much as a snicker bar? Instead of eating a banana, grab a handful of raw almonds. Almonds are filled with healthy fats and protein.
