Golf Prodigy Liu Falls in U.S. Junior Amateur Championship

Liu was the top seeded player in the tournament.

Smithtown’s golf prodigy Jim Liu fell to Andy Hyeon Bo Shim in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at The Golf Club of New England on Saturday.

According to a Newsday report, Liu fell to Shim 4-and-3 in Stratham, N.H. Shim, 17, was the 43rd-seeded player; Liu, a Knox School attendee, was the top seeded player.

Shim, in the biggest comeback win in a U.S. Junior Amateur final, was down five holes after the first 18 holes of the 36-hole final before coming back to top Liu, who after a good morning began to make errors on his shots off the tee and missing numerous important putts.

"The past half year I've been making swing changes," Liu told Newsday. "Things just fell apart the second 18 ... Now I know what I need to keep working on. I'll do that the rest of the summer. With any loss you can keep working on things and this was no different."
