Smithtown Native Nets Game-Winner Against Rangers

Kyle Palmieri beats the team he grew up idolizing.

Smithtown native Kyle Palmieri scored the game-winner for the Anaheim Ducks Monday night against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. 

Palmieri's goal midway through the first period gave the Ducks a 2-0 lead and gave Palmieri's friends and family in the stands something to cheer about. 

Palmieri was born in Smithtown, but moved to New Jersey at the age of 3, according to a Newsday report

He grew up a Rangers fan, idolizing Mark Messier, Newsday reported. 

"I grew up dreaming about playing in Madison Square Garden someday," he told Newsday, calling Monday "a special night for me."
