West Bulls Football Loses Playoff in Overtime to East Islip

Smithtown West varsity football eliminated by Redmen, same team to eliminate the East Bulls.

Smithtown West Bulls football has been knocked out of the chase for a Suffolk County title, but not without a hard-fought struggle. 

West Bulls lost in the quarterfinals of the Suffolk County Division II championship to East Islip Redmen, 22-16, on Friday night before more than 2,000 fans in Smithtown, Newsday reports. 

The game carried into overtime as the two teams were tied at 16 after four quarters. West Bulls started with the ball first in overtime but failed to score when at 45-yard field goal attempt came down just short of the crossbar. The kicker's attempt came after Bulls quarterback Matt Heldberg was sacked by East Islip for an 11-yard loss. 

East Islip's Erik Adon catch a pass down the visitor's sideline for a 15-yard scoring run to win the game, upsetting the West Bulls. 

The No.3-seeded Redmen will make their sixth trip to the county finals in eight years to play against No.1-seeded Riverhead.
