Nastia Liukin Drops In Gold Medal Gymnastics' Grand Opening

The 2008 Olympic All-Round Individual Gold Medalist signs autographs, does Q&A session with youth gymnasts at Smithtown center.

After tumbling into their , Gold Medal Gymnastics invited Olympic Gold Medalist Nastia Liukin to celebrate their Grand Opening celebration on Thursday.

Being open for two months and inviting, the Smithtown location saw a huge turnout, from noon. to 4 p.m., of excited youth gymnasts, all big fans awaiting Liukin’s signature.

Co-owners Al Notarnicola and Doreen Argenti-Colombo were not surprised by the turnout of the day, explaining that the new location already has several hundred kids registered and continues to grow steadily.

To start off the day, Liukin did an initial meet-and-greet with the kids eager to see her, which consisted of autographs and pictures. She also spoke with the children about motivation and the benefits of fitness and being healthy, along with a Q&A session.

“We wanted to give back to the customers and the kids, so we thought to bring in the amazing Nastia Liukin,” Argenti-Colombo said.

Many people were registering their children while Liukin was there, and each customer received special membership promotions for doing so, such as Olympic T-shirts and water bottles. Argenti-Colombo said that people who register before the end of the summer get free open gym time on the weekends for a month.

Gold Medal also has an inhouse star, Elite head coach Sara Harper from Great Britain, who will be heading the new Olympic training center there.

“We are very excited to be apart of Smithtown,” said Argenti-Colombo. “We really want to grow with the community, create a competitive edge for gymnastics and cheerleading, along with being a fun place to be.”
