Construction Work Ties up Smithtown Main Street

Smithtown drivers will want to give themselves extra time traveling through Main Street this Thursday. 

New York State construction crews have closed one eastbound lane of Main Street/Route 25 from Lawrence Avenue to Miller Place, or the entrance into the Village Commons Shopping Center. On the westbound side, construction has closed the right-hand turn lane from Main Street onto Landing Avenue. 

A construction worker at the scene said crews were hired to remove an old speed bump along Main Street, which created "an safety hazard." 

Construction is only expected to last one day, with crews hoping to finished before Thursday's evening rush hour.
