Local Baker Donates All-Natural Treats to Non-Profit Organizations

Kristyn Weiser, the proprietor of Fanny Cakes, a baking company which specializes in all-natural ingredients, brings her goods to the less fortunate.

Smithtown baker Kristyn Weiser is an avid supporter of local non-profit organizations, donating cakes and cupcakes made from all natural ingredients to fundraisers and various events.

"I chose to work with these organizations because my mother retired last June and I wanted to continue the affiliation," Weiser said. "I was always taught to give back and to help those less fortunate and now that I have my own business it was one of the first things I thought of."

Weiser’s donating resume includes a May event for the Friedberg Jewish Community Center at the center's 50th Anniversary Brunch Celebration in Oceanside, an April event for New York Foundling, an organization of foster and group facilities that provides housing for children whose safety is at risk, and events in March and May for the Sunrise Day Camp.

Amy Pilott, assistant director at Sunrise Day Camp, is grateful for the support of Weiser and her baking business Fanny Cakes, explaining that her donations help to enhance their fundraising events.

"Kristyn is an incredible individual," she said. "[She] has been a generous supporter. Kristyn told us about her new business Fanny Cakes and was curious how she could help out using her culinary talents. I told Kristyn about a number of our events and a few different ways to get involved. Instead of choosing just one event to donate to, she has chosen to donate to them all."

Weisner founded the company Fanny Cakes in September 2010, a baking company named as a tribute to her grandmother whose nickname was “Fanny,” the person who helped her get her start in baking.

One of her most popular cakes she's proud to make is red velvet, though she also loves the creative aspect of baking something new. Some of her creations include Blue Hawaii, Champagne and Cup-O-Joe cupcakes. Some of the more elaborate cakes are the Topsy Turvy and the three-tiered Black and White wedding cake.

"I love being able to try new recipes out and make them my own," she said. "Finding new and odd flavors to mix together and turn into a delicious dessert."

The baker admitted natural ingredients are an integral part of her creations.

"I also wanted to do things the way I thought they should be done, which means that everything I put out is always fresh, looks fantastic and of course is made from scratch," Weiser said.
